Keeping the Faith on Campus: Students at Secular Schools Face More Than Academic Challenges
New students facing challenges and temptations as they enter college.
Robinson felt like he was floating in a pool of secularism. After struggling to resist the culture around him, he finally had what he described as a “religious breakdown.” “I called home and told my mom I thought I was losing Jesus,” he said. (WNS) — Shaquille Robinson grew up in a strong Christian... Continue Reading
Presidents, But Not Pastors
Christian colleges choosing academic administrators, not pastors, as presidents.
Many evangelical colleges started out as Bible colleges, with pastors at the helm, their leadership later changed over to academic administrators. Evangelical colleges that continue to choose pastors as leaders…don’t face the demographic pressures that forced Catholic colleges to move away from priests and nuns as presidents as the ranks of vowed religious dwindled. ... “Tri-Perspectivalism”: An Introduction to John Frames Reformed Epistemology (Part I)
Tri-Perspectivalism was coined by theologian and professor of the theology John Frame as part of his multivolume effort to expound the doctrine of God.
Tri-Perspectivalism is a distinctly Christian theory of knowledge. Frame introduces his thought to the world in his book The Doctrine of the Knowledge of God. Thus by saying it is distinctly Christian, unlike most philosophical schools of epistemology that lean heaviest into human experience and reasoning, Frame’s thought is an epistemology of revelation. This means... Continue Reading

Is It OK for a Christian to vote for Mitt Romney?
Why [are] people who have been theocratic Reconstructionists for longer than some of these guys have been alive…willing to support him now?
Yet, who cares? Let’s stay home and let the country burn to the ground. Let’s stay home and not vote, trusting like fools that King Jesus will actually honor our manipulations and do a miracle for us. No guys. I don’t think Jesus likes being manipulated.
What Choices Are There for the Diocese of South Carolina?
A lesson in American Episcopalian history and polity; How does a diocese relate to the ECUSA?
This, then, is the first major point for the Diocese of South Carolina to realize: the choice of whether or not to remain in ECUSA belongs entirely to it. No bishop, Presiding Bishop, House of Bishops, or General Convention of ECUSA has the power to declare that the Diocese of South Carolina is no longer one of ECUSA's members.
Is “Should” a Dirty Word?
Sometimes you will be blessed to say it, other times you might need to repent when you say it.
Someone reminded me recently that I included the word should a few times in a recent book. The person thought this was a bad thing, but I don’t agree. Should is a perfectly fine word.
Is It True Jesus Never Addressed Same Sex Marriage?
The gospel changes us so that now we are enabled to do not what we want, but what God wants.
Listen to these tender words of the Savior, “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” This is the hope that is found in Jesus. This is the hope found in the gospel. Whether one is guilty of heterosexual or homosexual sin, one will find grace, forgiveness and freedom at the foot of the cross where the ground is always level.
Legalism or Obedience?
Disobedience is sin, and obedience is not legalism.
Still more broadly the term is also used of those Christians who insist on extra-biblical standards of behavior and judge godliness accordingly. For some it is zippers instead of buttons. No hair touching the ears for men. No jewelry for women. No slacks for women. No movies. No playing cards. And so on it goes. I’m sure you’ve heard of them. Extra-biblical standards of behavior are used to measure godliness. Legalism.
Everyone Benefits by Including Children in Small Groups
We must re-imagine the church community, moving beyond life-stage idolatry to see the church as a family.
The children see models of the Christian life other than their parents in all walks of life with varying pasts that educate them for the future. Kathy Keller's article on raising children in the city speaks of how others in the community can share their experiences to testify to the goodness of God in avoiding the temptations our children will face.
