Reasons to Vote in Favor of Amendments to the PCA’s BCO 16-4, BCO 20-4 and BCO 24-1
These BCO amendments add specific wording because of current issues in the culture that require clearer definitions of qualities like “above approach,” “a good reputation,” and “respected.”
Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) pastors Dominic Aquila and Fred Greco sat down in early September 2021 to discuss overtures 23 & 37 which are related to the Revoice/SSA officer controversies. They explained the background to them, answered questions posed about them, and clarified why these amendments should be passed. Watch the video here. ... Continue Reading
A Newcomers Guide to PCA Overtures 23 and 37
Even if you feel the proposed overtures are less than perfect, that is not a reason to vote against them.
Third, this is a persistent issue. There have been efforts to address this issue such as the recently affirmed human sexuality report. We do have our helpful standards in the Westminster Confession of Faith. Some contend this is adequate and no more needs to be said, especially the proposed amendments. But help me if I... A Minute With the Minutes On Overtures 23 & 37
Was there a massive disparity between ruling elders and teaching elders on the overtures 23 and 37 votes at the 2021 PCA General Assembly?
These numbers suggest that the “no” votes on the highly-contested, SSA-related overtures were disproportionately those of teaching elders. Of course, the reverse can also be assumed, that a disproportionate number of the “yes” voters were ruling elders…. Does this suggest a disconnect between pew and pulpit (RE/TE)? Or is it a metro/blue suburbs vs. rural/red... Continue Reading
A Response to David Coffin Concerning Overtures 23 and 37—Part One
Responding to objections to approving the proposed Overtures 23 and 37 now before PCA presbyteries.
One, it is not merely a local problem, for the church is one and what happens or is tolerated in one section soon infects the others. This statement is essentially a denial of Scripture’s teaching that the church is a lump leavened by the barest amount of leaven (1 Cor. 5:6-7; Gal. 5:9). It... Continue Reading
What Does the PCA Believe About Homosexuality?
THE PCA AIC report is the most in-depth explanation of our beliefs on these topics. The Nashville Statement is the most concise.
On Claiming Sin Identities: “To juxtapose identities rooted in sinful desires alongside the term “Christian” is inconsistent with Biblical language and undermines the spiritual reality that we are new creations in Christ… we name our sins but are not named by them.” (2 Cor. 5:17). (AIC HS #9). “Article 7 says it is a... Continue Reading
Dissenting Opinion On the SJC Decision In the Missouri Presbytery-Greg Johnson Case
The SJC ruled that Missouri Presbytery did not violate the Book of Church Order when it declined to bring charges against Greg Johnson; this Dissent Disagrees.
In his arguments TE Johnson rests on appeals to his own authority, first as a same-sex attracted man, then as an academic, then as a theologian, and then as a minister. He communicates authoritatively and effectively, and he has clearly convinced many that his understanding of how God interacts with same-sex attracted people is the... Continue Reading
Aquila & Greco on the PCA Book of Church Order and Polity
A series of sixteen videos: a practical, accessible, and edifying introduction to the PCA Book of Church Order; designed to engage, inform, and equip elders and church members.
My own hope and prayer is that pastors and elders across the wide range of the PCA will use these short sessions to train their men and supply their churches with the necessary resolve to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly” with the Lord our God in the midst of this poor, fallen world... Thoughts on the Present State of the Presbyterian Church in America: A Series of Theses Presented by a Concerned Member—Part Four
This article is part of a series of propositions covering current topics in the Presbyterian Church in America that elders and members are following with great interest. This is Part Four.
That they who desire our denomination to be diverse in its practices – that is, to be a so-called ‘big tent’ and nationwide church – ought to take heed, for this exulting in practical diversity lends itself quite easily to a spirit which regards a broad church as being more important than a doctrinally sound... Thoughts on the Present State of the Presbyterian Church in America: A Series of Theses Presented by a Concerned Member—Part Three
This article is part of a series of propositions covering current topics in the Presbyterian Church in America that elders and members are following with great interest. This is Part Three
That the whole testimony of Scripture stands against those who would make homosexual lust an acceptable trait of ministers. For Scripture is uniform in denouncing everything to do with homosexual desire or deeds as sinful, and it is unthinkable that anyone whose thought was formed solely by Scripture would ever conclude that something like Revoice... Thoughts on the Present State of the Presbyterian Church in America: A Series of Theses Presented by a Concerned Member—Part Two
This article is part of a series of propositions covering current topics in the Presbyterian Church in America that elders and members are following with great interest. This is Part Two
That any endeavor to soften the blunt message of Scripture that homosexuality is utterly perverse and shameful and ought to be forsaken entirely runs a risk of blurring the absolute difference between the Christian position and that of the sinful flesh, and thereby risks making repentance seem less urgent and of making redemption seem less...
