It’s a Friday night in Westminster, Colo., and moms and dads are dropping their kids off at church for an evening of science, snacks, skits, and games. Then the moms and dads head out for an evening together.
This is a new version of vacation Bible school called Fabulous Fridays. Parents and kids alike are reaping the benefits.
“Fabulous Fridays is a unique way to experience fun VBS programming one Friday night a month while parents enjoy a night away,” said Susan Faltinson, director of children’s ministries at Family in Christ Christian Reformed Church.
Parents are asked to pay a fee or volunteer their time to help. Parents can send their kids for free the night they volunteer, as well as one other Fabulous Friday night.
“It’s valuable for both the kids and the parents,” said Christine McKee, a parent who sends her children to Fabulous Fridays. “It’s valuable for the parents to have time that they can spend as adults, and it’s also valuable for the kids to learn about Jesus, God’s Word, and to be with their friends.”
