New Wineskins Transitional Presbytery, during the sixth convocation of the New Wineskins Association of Churches Oct. 4-6, 2009, in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, continued efforts toward fulfilling its missional calling and further clarifying its relationship with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Following up on a similar June action by the EPC at its General Assembly in Michigan, the presbytery voted to receive the “Becoming One” report. The document outlines plans for current and future New Wineskinspresbytery members to establish full membership in the EPC through one of its geographic presbyteries.
The New Wineskins congregations retain the option of having dual membership in an EPC presbytery and the non-geographic New Wineskins transitional presbytery, a point leaders from both bodies continue to stress and clarify. The most common question is: “How’s this going to work?” said the Rev. Bill Meyer, co-chair of the joint commission on Becoming One.
